Ideally I could see half dome and clouds rest in one trip since the backpacking permit could include half dome but I’m wondering if I’m trying to pack too much in.Īlternatively I could just do an overnight to upper cathedral lake and a separate overnight in Yosemite falls and camp on top of El Capitan. Wake up early, head down towards half dome- there is a small stream by the junction of JMT/half dome trail. Set up camp just after clouds rest, there is 1 decent flat spot just below it and hike back up for sunset, you won’t regret it. If you cancel between 3 and 6 day(s) in advance of the scheduled departure, there is a 50 percent cancellation fee. (Last reliable water source until half dome junction) Have a slow morning, head to clouds rest. From the summit you're actually looking down on Half Dome, some two miles away and a thousand feet below you, and you have to traverse a harrowing stretch along a narrow ridge with fatal dropoffs on either side to get to the viewing area at the end of the trail. I’d love any feedback people have (please don’t be mean). 5-Day Cathedral Lakes to Clouds Rest & Half Dome cancellation policy: If you cancel at least 7 days in advance of the scheduled departure, there is no cancellation fee. Clouds Rest in particular has parallels to the Half Dome hike. Here was the itinerary I was thinking of doing:ĭay 1: overnight at the backpackers campground in Tuolumne meadowsĭay 3: camp at sunrise lakes (im thinking upper?)ĭay 4: bag clouds rest and camp near thereĭay 5: bag half dome and hike down the mist trail to happy isles then catch the shuttle to Yosemite villageĭay 6: shuttle from Yosemite village back to Tuolumne meadows. Trailhead: Sunrise Lakes trailhead on Tioga Road. ![]() It could be done as an overnight hike, and extended to include Half Dome. ![]() I’ll also be going by myself so I can’t use a car shuttle Summary: A long loop walk through Yosemite, which traverses Clouds Rest, before returning via thr Sunrise Lakes. I’m an experienced backpacker but a little confused on where to stay every night. So I managed to snag a Cathedral Lakes permit and then things started to spiral as I entered a Reddit Yosemite hole.
